My favorite part of the writing process is brainstorming. I love to brainstorm. When I write a book, I spend much more time brainstorming than actually writing.  Also, I do not write from beginning to end, but often skip all over the place.  The final chapter is usually written before the rest of my story.  When I have a clear vision of a scene, I like to jump on it right away regardless of where it ends up in the book.

Yes, many of my characters are based on people I know.  In fact, most of the characters in the Raymond and Grahm series are based on real people I grew up with!
